5 Back-To-School Hacks For College Students By Amazon

By Elana Goodwin on September 28, 2016

It’s almost October, so fall semester is well underway at universities across America — but even though school’s already started, it’s not too late to be in the know.

Amazon listed five hacks in a press release that will make your time at college that much better, and possibly save you money. Here are Amazon’s five back-to-school hacks.

1. Get Yourself An Assistant. With Alexa, the artificial intelligence force behind Amazon Echo, you can simply say her name and then a command. Echo connects the Alexa Voice Service to give you requested information, play music, give you a score update, tell you the weather, order you a pizza, call for a Lyft, and more, as Alexa has over 3,000 skills to her name.

With Alexa, ask and you shall receive — it’s that simple.

2. Make Ordering Easier. You won’t ever have to worry about running out of some crucial item or be forced to run to a late-night CVS or campus store again when you have the Amazon Dash Button, which is a Wi-Fi connected device that allows you to reorder items with a push of the button. From being able to have your late night snack handy to always having laundry essentials, and more, Amazon Dash Button is just the button students need.

3. Give Yourself Better TV. Whether you’re in a dorm or living off-campus, the cable capabilities are probably not anything to brag over. That’s why you need the Fire TV Stick, which will allow you to easily keep up with your favorite TV shows as it’s got over 4,000 channels, apps and games. Amazon Fire TV Stick will work with any HDTV and is compatible with the Wi-Fi in most dorms, so you can plug it in and play TV anywhere.

The Fire TV Stick gives you immediate access to Netflix, HBO NOW, Amazon Video, and Hulu, so you’ll always have something to watch. Plus, you can keep up with sports and award shows live with Sling TV, which includes ESPN, HGTV, TNT, Food Network and more.

4. Save Some Money. With Amazon Prime Student, you can save time and money by visiting the Textbook Store, rather than paying a small fortune at the campus bookstore for your class materials. Amazon offers up to 80 percent savings off the price list for rentals between 30 to 360 days and up to 60 percent off purchases.

Amazon’s flexible rental program allows students to keep the required books and materials for as long as they need, and once they’re done, Amazon will pay for return shipping. With Amazon Prime Student, you also get access to Prime Video and Prime Music for free, and one of Amazon Prime Student’s best features is their free two-day shipping, so you’ll get your orders much faster.

5. Don’t Stress About Studying Or Relaxing. With the Fire tablet, you can store your eTextbooks alongside your favorite movies, TV shows, music, books, etc., so you can easily take breaks from studying. Using the Kindle App on the Fire tablet, you can access studying features like X-Ray for Textbooks, which will show you definitions, related pages, and other relevant information from sources like Wikipedia and YouTube.

You can also use Multi-Color Highlights to color important words or notes and then turn those notes into Flashcards. Once you’re ready to take a break from studying, the Fire tablet will give you access to the internet, and you can listen to music, read a magazine, watch some TV, and more, so the Fire tablet is perfect for both studying and enjoyable downtime.

If you don’t already have the Amazon items listed in these five hacks, consider getting them so your time in school will be that much easier and more convenient.
